During this mid-year meeting, the VITAL project leaders and support teams for sub-projects and work packages presented their achievements towards the VITAL objectives. A board of 3 VITAL Technology advisors, the EC Scientific Officer and the 3 EC Reviewers reviewed the presentations. A total of 33 persons participated in this review. The main conclusion of the reviewers was of a very good quality and high technical level of the themes presented, worthwhile programme with good preliminary and promising results. All the major tests are on going and some of them are already completed. A detailed work schedule for the last and final period of the project has been checked. A large part of the tests would be completed as planned by the end of 2008; however some other tests will be delayed later and will need to ask for an extension of the project. The final integration and assessment of VITAL technologies will be implemented, along with the organisation of a scientific workshop earlier in 2009 (including conferences and an exhibition) for the dissemination of VITAL results.
